Come to the Harvest Hut Tonight! (August 21, 2023)
The Harvest Hut is on tonight (Monday, August 21, 2023) from 5-7pm at the Splash Park in Oliver. Let’s face it, this is a challenging time to be in the Okanagan. Please come to the Harvest Hut tonight, whether or not you’re from Oliver or just staying here due to evacuation. If you’re not local, you can experience a Monday-night summer tradition in Oliver.
If you know people who are evacuated, firefighters, emergency personnel, anyone who’s extra-stressed due to what’s going on, take extra and give them some produce. Everyone likes to know people are thinking of them and nothing says “I care” like something yummy, like a peach or a crisp apple. Or even a carrot. I love carrots.
Despite standing outdoors in these poor environmental conditions and — despite a drop in tourism due to the provincial order, our vendors have remained generous. Maybe even extra generous, knowing how stressful it is for all of us and wanting to make sure everyone has access to good, fresh produce and other food. All of them, in one way or another, have made it clear that if firefighters, other emergency-services personnel and evacuees need anything the vendors have, those people should just come by. Yes, our vendors who contribute to the Harvest Hut are that generous, in part because people of the South Okanagan are that generous.
Speaking of carrots as I was earlier, there are actually carrots tonight. Even onions. Some great Sunrise and Ambrosia apples, tomatoes, zucchini — you know the drill!
The Harvest Hut thanks these great local businesses (and vendors), listed below in alphabetical order:
Fruit Cart (Jas and Khushi)
Nature’s Basket (Beantjit)
Oliver Garden & Fruit Market (Ankur, Minty, Ankit and Ravi)
Street Garage sale on Panorama Cres. in Oliver – off Fairview Road. Several houses taking part on Saturday, Aug. 12, starting at 8:30 am. Variety of items and might even be a lemonade stand.
